Handmade goodies.

Instead of trying to scout out cheap finds in stores to take care of my girl friends this Christmas, I decided to get out my sewing needles and make something they can wear. After a few fabric store trips and a couple of handy online tutorials, I busted out a dozen headbands and broaches for my girlfriends, sisters, and momma. Should you wish to make one for yourself, check out the tutorials that helped me: DIY bridesmaid headband & how to make a yo-yo.

I’ve seen “I took the handmade pledge” around the blogging world for a few years now, and always thought it was a wonderful idea. But it’s slightly impossible because people in my life don’t usually request handmade items for Christmas. Well this year I did what I could.

January 4, 2010 - 11:31 am anna - awww those are so adorable what a good idea! ur so crafty :D

January 4, 2010 - 1:42 pm Natasha of NatashasKitchen.com - Sheer awesomeness. The headbands are especiall lovely. How do you get them to stay on your head though? I've never had much luck with headbands. I don't want to resort to putting them on my ears.

January 5, 2010 - 1:20 am zhanna - i loved it julia. you are the best gift giver. its so unexpected...not anything on my list. lol i love it. thanks you creative you

January 6, 2010 - 11:17 pm Courtney - You need to open an etsy shop. These are lovely. I bet your girlfriends were absolutely thrilled to received such pretty gifts!

January 8, 2010 - 2:26 am Julia - Courtney, thanks for the confidence boost. Maybe one of these days. Natasha, check out the link I posted to the headband tutorial... the headband has a piece of elastic band glued to the fabric in the back. It's stretchy and snug on the head.

January 8, 2010 - 9:09 am Jena - These are so gorgeous! I am in LOVE with the headbands; please start selling them. Lovely blog!

January 10, 2010 - 9:45 pm zhanna - te cute

February 6, 2010 - 5:01 pm Tanya M - Olivia wore hers recently and just pulled the flower right off the headband. I just knew it would happen, knowing babies and their impatience with things. So I think I'm going to glue a clip on the back and use it that way to hold her hair out of her face. You should make some more for her and Mila with clips or bobby pins on the back. Or even for friends. All of your creations are GORgeous!
